Dust Inhibitor
Dust Inhibitor is a proprietary mixture of mineral oil and white bee's wax.  This type of mixture is used by many well known wood turners.  One of the primary health hazards of wood turning is the generation of dust particles.  When you are ready to sand your turning, apply a sparse coat of Dust Inhibitor to the surface that is to be sanded.  Wipe off the excess with a paper towel.  Some of the oil will penetrate your turning.  Begin sanding in the normal manner.  It will appear that the sandpaper is being clogged by the dust and oil/wax.  However, there is some lubrication of the surface which seems to facilitate the sanding and reduce the heat checking that  sometimes is encountered on woods like cherry.  Between each grit of sandpaper, wipe the surface of the turning to remove remnant grit.  A small amount of mineral spirits will facilitate this.  Re-apply a coating of Dust Inhibitor and continue with the next grit of sand paper.  I have found the best results are obtained when sanding with cloth backed materials.

You now can perform the arduous task of sanding with relatively dust free conditions.  That would be much welcomed by your lungs and all the flat surfaces in your shop.

Dust Inhibitor is available in two sizes, an 8 ounce ($9.00) and one pound jar ($15.00).  Packing and shipping are extra.

8 oz jar - $9.00

Bowl & Board Conditioner
Bowl & Board Conditioner is a proprietary mixture of walnut oil and carnauba wax.  Both of these ingredients are edible.  Therefore, this finish is acceptable for use on salad bowls, utensils and cutting boards.  When you are finished with the sanding operation, coat your work with walnut oil or any of your other favorite oil finishes.  The walnut oil is recommended since it is the most compatible with the Bowl & Board Conditioner.  After allowing the oil to soak into the wood, wipe off the excess.  Continue to wipe the work until there is no evidence of weeping oil.  Coat the work with the Bowl & Board Conditioner sparingly.  Rub the finish in with your fingers.  The heat of your hand will enhance the penetration of the mixture.  After it sets for a few minutes, wipe off the excess.  Buff with a paper towel while the work spins on your lathe.  More than one coating can be applied. This will result in a relatively matte finish.

This finish can be used on other wood products that are in your kitchen, such as knife handles, cutting boards and spatulas.  It will bring them back to life.
